Getting to know each other

Thursday 23rd October saw the 4th day of Maya’s Therapy and and first day of Sanj’s entry into Maya’s blog. We have now developed a routine, 3 hours of therapy in the morning from 7-10am, then a break so Maya can have a nap, followed by a second session of therapy from 12-3pm. To be honest the break is not only for Maya as it is quite tiring for us also, it also allows us to spend some time with our other child... oh yes, her name is Leela!!

We have now identified 2 goals for Maya’s treatment. The first is to improve the gross motor skills of the right arm and the second is to develop the ‘pincer grip’, involving her thumb and index finger. By achieving the first goal we should see more success with the second.

We are still in the ‘getting to know each other’ phase. Maya’s certainly the manipulator, her attitiude to therapy involves crying when asked to do a task, but to still do it, and she doesn’t hold a grudge as she smiles at Brittny and Mary Laura when the task is finished.

Repetition is the key, we have already seen some improvements in Maya’s right arm and hand. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings...

  1. Hy,

Me again! The pincer grip at this age? Is this really possible already (so young??) ..hmm.. seems a bit unlikely.. children normally develop a pincer grip later on? (I'm not sure... though..) ..
    Hang'in there!
