It's a funny old game

Today’s therapy was akin to a traditional English football match in that it was a game of two halves. The first (morning) half produced some aggressive, untidy and at times unattractive ‘plays’. Maya was guilty of poor concentration, petulance and negativity. The crowd (parents) were unimpressed, if they had anywhere else to go they certainly would have, and if a referee was present Maya would have been sent off to an early bath (although technically this is very difficult due to her cast!). The opposition, Maya’s therapist (Brittny), did not lower herself to Maya’s level, and this is the only reason something could be salvaged from the first 3 hours.

The half time team talk, involving mainly sleep and a snack (didn’t have Oranges or tea!), seemed to do the trick. For the second (afternoon) half Maya brought a whole different attitude to the game. She was much more positive, patient & proactive, and not a tantrum in sight! Positive feelings filled the stadium (living room) and tensions receded. The ‘goal(s)’, which seemed so small in the first half was now huge and Maya was scoring with the ease of Rooney (sorry, but there aren’t any good Dutch strikers!).

To sum up the game. The beginning of week 2 brought on some frustrations for all concerned (except Leela who is very content and is growing like a monster!). Although it may not be visually obvious, Maya has certainly made progress. Her muscle tone is not as high all the time and her gross motor movement is improving. All in all, when the lady started singing, Maya had made progress and gained a victory, not only for herself but also for the crowd.......it certainly was a game of two halves!
